The question every panel builder gets asked: “ABB, Schneider, or Siemens?” The honest answer is that all three make excellent equipment and the right choice depends on what youre building. Heres what 18 years of stocking and shipping all three has taught us.
Where each genuinely outperforms
ABB
Strength: Standardised wide-range AC/DC coils across the AF contactor line — one stock item covers 100-250V. Massive simplification for service stock.
Strength: Tmax XT MCCBs are compact, simple wiring, generous accessory ecosystem.
Weakness: Catalogue numbering is dense (10+ digits per part) — easy to mis-order.
Schneider Electric
Strength: Best documentation and panel-builder tools in the industry. The “EcoStruxure Power Design” software speeds up panel quoting dramatically.
Strength: Compact NSX MCCB family — well-loved by panel builders for ergonomics.
Weakness: Lead times from Europe-stocked items can spike during high-demand quarters.
Siemens
Strength: SIRIUS 3RT contactors are mechanically robust with very long electrical life — favoured by heavy-industrial users.
Strength: SENTRON 3VA MCCB family integrates cleanly with Siemens PLCs / TIA Portal for industrial automation projects.
Weakness: Smaller distributor network in the GCC compared to ABB and Schneider.
When to choose by application
| Application | First choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Building distribution panels (LV) | Schneider or Hager | Best panel-builder ecosystems |
| Process / motor control (industrial) | Siemens or ABB | Long electrical life on cyclic duty |
| Standardised service-spares stocking | ABB | Wide-range coils simplify inventory |
| Utility / DEWA / ADDC approved boards | ABB or Schneider | Strongest UAE utility approvals |
| Tight CAPEX budget | Mixed (Chint / Lovato + tier-1 for incomers) | Same standards compliance at lower cost |
Sourcing all three
